Search & Discovery
Search & Discovery
Search & Discovery controls how shoppers find products: the filters on collection and search pages, what search understands, which products come first, and what product pages recommend. It also shows what shoppers search for, including the searches that found nothing.
Install it from Apps, then open Apps → Search & Discovery. The tabs are Filters, Search settings (with Synonyms and Boosts), Recommendations and Analytics.
Filters, search and recommendations are served to every theme, so there is no theme code to add. Your theme decides how they look.
Filters
Shoppers narrow collection and search pages with filters, in the order listed. Each choice shows how many products it would leave.
When you first open the tab, Eekaam suggests filters from your catalogue: Availability and Price, up to three of your variant options (such as Size and Colour), and Product type and Brand if you have more than one of each. Add filter adds more, up to 20:
| Filter | Values come from |
|---|---|
| Availability | In stock or sold out |
| Price | A price range |
| Variant option | One option name, such as Size, Colour or Fabric |
| Product type | The product's type |
| Brand | The product's vendor |
| Tag | Product tags |
| Collection | The collections a product is in |
| Metafield | A product metafield, by its namespace.key |
Show values as chooses between As text and As swatches. Colour options start as swatches. You can rename any filter, reorder them, and switch one off without deleting it. Shoppers see changes as soon as you save.
With no filters, collection and search pages show none.
Search settings
What search looks in
Every search looks in product titles and understands plurals, so "shirts" finds "shirt". You can also include:
| Field | |
|---|---|
| Variant names and options | "red" finds a shirt that comes in Red |
| SKUs and barcodes | Exact matches only, so a code finds its product |
| Product type | "kurta" finds products of type Kurtas |
| Brand | The product's vendor |
| Tags | Every tag on a product |
| Description | Counts least. Turn it off if searches find too much |
Sold-out products on collection and search pages can stay in their normal place, move to the end, or be hidden.
Try a search shows the results a shopper would get with your current settings.
Synonyms
Synonyms are words shoppers use for the same thing. A search for any word in a group finds products with the others: "lawn" finds your unstitched suits, "joggers" finds trousers.
Add synonyms, then enter the words or phrases separated by commas: lawn, unstitched, 3 piece. Turn on One way when only the first word should find the others, but not the reverse.
Good places to start are the searches that found nothing under Analytics, and the Urdu and English words your shoppers mix.
Boosts
A boost puts the products you choose first for a search: your best seller for "kurta", or the new arrival for "eid". Boosted products show first, in your order, even if the word alone wouldn't find them.
Add boost, enter the Search term, and pick up to 20 Products, in order. The term matches the whole search, with any capitals, so "Eid Collection" and "eid collection" are the same.
Recommendations
By default, product pages recommend products like the one being viewed: from the same collections, type and brand, followed by your best sellers. To set them yourself, Choose a product:
- Related products are shown first, in your order, in "You may also like". Automatic ones fill the rest.
- Complementary products go with this one. They are used by themes' "Pairs well with" and "Complete the look" blocks.
- Hide stops a product ever being recommended beside this one.
Shoppers see now previews the result. Back to automatic clears your choices for that product.
Start with your best sellers: pick what to show beside them, and the accessories that complete the look.
Analytics
Searches on your store's search page since you installed the app, for the last 7, 30 or 90 days:
- Searches, Found nothing, and Click rate, the share of searches where a shopper opened a product.
- Searches that found nothing: what shoppers wanted and left without. Fix it offers a Synonym or a Boost for that word.
- Top searches, with their results and click rate. A low click rate means shoppers didn't like what they found, so boost the right products.
For theme developers
Filters reach Liquid as collection.filters and search.filters, and recommendations through product_recommendations_url. See Liquid objects.
